About the Ship
Bright and clean, with service right at the cusp of first-class cruising and utter luxury, Sapphire Princess represents an evolution in Princess's Grand-class concept. What's so special? For one, a unique-to-cruising interpretation of Personal Choice Dining, with one set-seating dining room, and four no-fee themed restaurants. Sapphire also introduced Club Fusion, a secondary show lounge that replaces the fleet's Vista Lounge, and features state-of-the-art sound, high-definition video screens and a pretty hip dance floor. This ship has what it takes to appeal to all ages: cutting-edge programs for youngsters, traditional entertainment options for cruise veterans, and a mix of the contemporary and the conventional for everyone in-between.
The variety of dining rooms and lounges disperses the crowds and makes guests feel they’re on a much smaller ship. Entertaining lectures draw large crowds, and first-run movies, wine tastings, ceramic painting, dance classes, culinary demonstrations, and courses to improve computer skills are popular.
In addition to Club Fusion, one of Sapphire Princess’s most impressive new amenities is the huge, airy internet café, with 29 flat-screen computer stations and an café serving coffee and pastries. And rates are only 35 cents per minute, a real bargain by shipboard standards. Another gem is the Skywalkers Nightclub, the sky-high disco introduced on the Grand-class ships, which has been expanded and redesigned here to include a 125-foot-wide balcony for stargazing. For couples planning onboard weddings, ceremonies now can be seen by folks back home on the Internet via the chapel's live "Wed Cam."
Sapphire Princess, with its four pools, plus a kiddie splash pool, extensive children's center and cutting edge entertainment and programs, is particularly well suited to families and multigenerational groups. But couples will find much to like on this vessel too, including the fact the smaller restaurants have a more romantic feel and a decent number of tables for two. The longer Asian and South Pacific sailings attract an older, more well-heeled clientele with fewer children aboard. Travelers who want to discover their destinations will relish the educational programs; those who want to do a spa retreat will find the Lotus spa quite upscale.
