About the Ship
Launched in 1990 and refurbished in 2002,
Marina
is unlike Costa’s cruise ships for one crucial reason: it’s marketed entirely to German passengers. Aside from the homogenous passenger complement,
Marina
is a stately ship that, thanks to the aforementioned refurbishment, has aged very well. (Carpeting, curtains, and upholstery were replaced in all staterooms, and the upper deck was outfitted with new teak planking, among other renovations.) Measuring 577 feet, weighing 26,000 tons, and capable of hosting 760 passengers,
Marina
is home to a relative wealth of dining venues, bars, lounges, swimming pools, and fitness amenities.
What to Expect
Marina’s
atmosphere bustles with constant activity. The atmosphere is youthful and vibrant: Young and middle-aged German couples gather to gamble in Casino Sanremo; people-watch in the atrium; take in shows in the Tropicana Theater; and drink and dance the night away in Harry’s Bar. The pools and fitness area are popular daytime destinations for
Marina’s
passengers.
Amenity Highlights
The popular Internet café boasts 17-inch flat-screen monitors from which passengers can send digital postcards; a 250-meter jogging track is frequented by cruisers working off the previous night’s excesses; three outdoor whirlpools are popular post-exercise destinations; and the Trevi Gallery, which sells art, crafts, and duty-free items, is an excellent place to browse for gifts.
.
Who Should Go
Marina
is best suited for young German couples, groups, and singles, although a fair number of German families and retirees are present on each sailing. The ship’s boisterous atmosphere makes it a good choice for cruisers who embrace activity and who enjoy socializing with their fellow passengers.
Marina
is frequented by first-time German cruisers in search of an enjoyable introduction to the cruising lifestyle. Costa has even created a tagline for the ship to help market it to the German market;
Marina
is known informally as “La Deutsche Vita.”
